Mechanical Engineering (Bachelor of Engineering)

Is your goal to develop the latest agricultural machinery as an engineer? Then we have something in common. CLAAS is one of the market and technological leaders in the area of harvesting technology – if you join our company you will be able to learn from the best.  

As a mechanical engineer at CLAAS, you have both manual and technical skills, an ability to think systematically and a methodical approach. All of these qualities are essential if you want to work on the development, calculation, design and production of highly modern agricultural machinery.

The development of a new combine harvester can take up to 10 years.

You can complete the study programme with two different major subjects:

  • If you choose production technology as your major, you will mainly be responsible for ensuring the smooth, cost-efficient and logistically efficient production of machines and assemblies. Your day-to-day work will involve collaborating with the development, quality assurance and purchasing departments.
  • If you prefer calculating and designing individual parts or complex assemblies, you can choose design engineering as your major subjects. Here, you will collaborate with various project teams to develop functionally capable machines.

Regardless of which major subject you eventually choose - the Mechanical engineering study programme secures your entry ticket into the coveted world of CLAAS engineering.

    Training programme details
    Training duration:3 years
    Prerequisites:
    • German university entry qualification (Abitur, grade point average 2.5 or better)
    • Demonstrated strengths in mathematical and scientific subjects
    • Pronounced interest in technology
    • Mobility, flexibility
    Structure:

    Alternating theoretical phases at the Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg Stuttgart and practical phases at CLAAS roughly every 3 months.
    If you complete the dual study-program at our Bad Saulgau site, the theory phases are held at the Dualen Hochschule Baden- Württemberg at the Ravensburg/Friedrichshafen campus.

    1st–4th semesters:

    Theoretical aspects:

    • Mathematics
    • Elastomechanics
    • Materials technology and testing
    • Design
    • Mechanical technology
    • Technical thermodynamics
    • Electrical engineering
    • Technical physics
    • Chemistry for mechanical engineers
    • Data processing
    • Work planning methods

    Practical aspects:

    • Basic knowledge and skills in metalworking and their application in the operational departments
    • Introduction to engineering work
    • Product training

    5th–6th semesters:

    • In-depth study of chosen specialist subject group
    • Bachelor thesis
    Additional training measures:
    • Introductory seminar
    • CAD training
    • Deployment abroad as appropriate
    • Product training
